Summer Art Camps in Austin, TX
art Camps.. where it all began
Hi! Rachel here, the owner of Cherrywood Treehouse. I wanted to give a little back story to why I love teaching. Let’s rewind, shall we? In 2014, I taught my very first art students—and thanks to a little video magic, I have a snapshot of that moment in time. Watch the video here, or below - and you’ll see the roots of something I didn’t fully realize was beginning: a lifelong mission to help people (starting with kids!) tap into their creativity, confidence, and joy through art. This video is about 12 years old, keep that in mind :)
When I graduated college in 2013, I was focused on selling my artwork. I didn’t really have an intention to teach art. It wasn’t until someone (a very dear friend and mentor now - Sean O’Brien!) asked if I could teach his daughter art one on one. I’m so glad I said yes - because that was the linchpin that helped me discover that I truly loved how art brought people together.
Fast forward to today, I am working with companies to do creative workshops, and I’m running small-group summer art camps in Austin at my studio, Cherrywood Treehouse. There is a lot that happened in between 2013 and 2025 - and most of that time was spent in the corporate world. I’m really grateful for my time in the workforce because it’s prepared for what I am doing today. If you are reading this and have creative dreams of your own, whatever you are doing today is preparing the way for you to make your dream a reality. You don’t have to do your dream full time either to live out your calling. Maybe that’s a separate blog post..
